Bang Saray from Pattaya: Seafood, the Navy Beach and a 10 km Walk

Bang Saray is a day trip, not somewhere to stay. It's too close to Pattaya to bother with a hotel, and there aren't many places to stay anyway. But there's plenty to fill a day.

The seafront

There are seafood restaurants all along the front, and the beach stretches a long way, so it's a lovely place for a walk.

I don't have a regular seafood place, but I do have a couple of favourites. La Cremerie has a branch there, with a very good breakfast and pastries. My favourite in the area is a small café on the beach called Manga & Hubba. I've been about a dozen times. Honestly, the food isn't fantastic, but the setting is so nice you forgive it. That's why I keep going back.

The Navy beach

The Navy beach at Sattahip, Sai Kaew Beach, is particularly nice. It's on Navy land, so there are a few hoops to jump through, but anyone can go. There's a checkpoint at the entrance, where you'll usually be asked to leave your passport or ID, then it's a 10 to 15 minute drive from Sukhumvit down towards the beach. Foreigners pay a small entry fee, around ฿100. At weekends you park up and take a shuttle down to the sand.

The water is really clear, and it's a lovely beach that's never too busy.

A 10 km beach walk

Last time I went, I walked about 10 km along the beach from Bang Saray back towards Pattaya, as far as Ocean Marina. I didn't know you could walk that far, and I kept expecting to get stuck and have to turn back, but you can do it all the way.

It isn't all sand. There are rocky stretches to scramble over, so it's not one for anyone who isn't reasonably fit. But if you're used to walking long distances, it's a great way to spend an afternoon.

What's nearby

Bang Saray is close to several of the area's big attractions, each worth a day of its own:

  • Nong Nooch Garden
  • Ramayana Water Park
  • Khao Chi Chan, the Buddha cliff
