Things to Do in Pattaya: Where I Take Friends and Family
When friends visit, where I take them depends on what they're into. These are my go-to picks after 20 years here, plus one thing I'd skip.
What should first-time visitors see in Pattaya?
Walking Street. I haven't been for a number of years, but it's part of Pattaya's history and still the focal point of the entertainment district. It's an experience, so I'd show visitors it at least once.
Nong Nooch. A lovely day out, with gardens and the chance to see elephants up close.
Koh Lan. The beaches on the island are very nice, and it's only about a 30-minute boat ride from Pattaya. More in my guide to the best beaches around Pattaya.
What are the best things to do in Pattaya with kids?
These are my first three for families:
- Ramayana Water Park. A fantastic day out and a first-class facility.
- Aquaverse. Another very good water park.
- Khao Kheow Open Zoo. A first-class zoo and a great family day out.

What would I skip?
The temples in Pattaya. They're okay, but not that impressive compared with the Grand Palace in Bangkok. If you want temples, save yourself for Bangkok.
A hidden gem: hotel day passes
Some of the big hotels sell day passes, so you can spend the day at their pools without staying the night. I believe the Mövenpick and the InterContinental both do one, but check with the hotel first.
The one we used to love was the Centara in Naklua, which also has Lost World, a jungle-gym style play area the kids love. It was fantastic value. It's still a great day out, just a lot more expensive than it used to be.
For shopping, read shopping in Pattaya, and for the famous strip, Walking Street Pattaya.
